Installation Windows XP US Sp2

hy guys,

i found your board while surfing for a solution of my problem,

the thing is my system got fucked up after a few years of usage so i thought well its time again for a reinstall..... i backuped my stuff, formated, inserted the xp disc, started the installer...

but then after the first installation phase after the first reboot before the right installation starts.. on appearing of the xp loading screen when the bars reach 3/4 of the scale the system just freezes.

I tried everything from using different drives, failsafe bios settings, checked the hdd with surface testing and and and but still the same.... X(

some system infos:

dual prescott 3,2 ht
2 gb corsair xms 2 pro dual channel ram
system drive (old) seagate 60 gb
other drives 3 x samsung sp1614n (used on a raid controller)

i am capable of understanding some german but dont get it over the top ;P

is this rhe same system as the first install?
Ist das das gleiche system wie beim ersten install?
When no, may be the windows doesen't work with your raidcontroller.
is the disc doesn't havekratzer (was heist kratzer auf englisch?). My disc has a lotr kartzer and sometimes I can#t install the system than i formated a second time net install of a new one so long bit it will happen.

I hope you can understood my bad english.

Mechanius

Ps How many cost your system?

yes its the same system, only the dvd burner changed....

the disc is brand new, not even one fatty finger on it ;P

btw "kratzer" is scratch in english.....

i formated round 5 - 6 times now but it just didnt work....

hmm my system?

lets thing....

with everything in it round $ 5000 - 5500

Hello,

is this a windows cd with an integrated service pack2? If yes try a version with service pack 1, cause sp2 may have some problems with your system settings f.ex. dual ht or the raid controller. A friend of my has a raid controller too and at his computer, a win xp boot cd with an integrated sp2 doesn't work so he has to boot from a sp1 cd and change to sp2 after the installation.

I don't think that this is a problem with your hardware configuration or with a broken hardware, because you don't have changed anything ( except the dvd burner ;-)).

How have you formated your harddisk?

PS: Nice PC!

Have you thought of a broken RAM? Use a memory testing tool such as memtest and check if your memory is still ok. Alternatively try removing each single ram bar (? ... Speicherriegel).

guess so.... i tried an sp1 version and now it works but im not sure maybe the keyboard is a reason too.... its an european version i bought on a vacation and it could be that its not really supported.... but well if it works then it works....

hehe im using such a "big" system cuz of rendering, musik production and movie / video editing....

I've never heard of a Keyboard preventing Windows from installing =)

So the installation worked now? Can you install SP2 now, that it is installed?

regards
gmw

neither did i, but its a fact that the sp2 version freezes where the sp1 version starts to check the keyboard, when the sp2 freezes in that progress the sp1 version starts to communicate with the keyboard, you know some short flickering and stuff and then the setup continues and on the sp2 version it freezes there and no keyboad reaction....

and i tried everything, like removing all add on cards, changing the memory slots, removing the raid harddiscs from the controller and so on....

i would have never guessed in such a direction, cuz im working in customer support / computer helping.....

well you knever stop learning....

i didnt reinstall sp2 i just installed all the available updates....

How old is your motherboard? I encountered the same problem when installing Windows Xp for the first time on my machine. After install it freezed at the boot up screen. After all, dont't ask me how, I found out that it was a problem with ACPI. You could try it the way I solved it maybee. After inserting the cd there are two messages coming up at the bottom of the screen. Something like for "installation of... press f6" Just press f5 then and a menu appears in which you can select your kind of pc. Choose "Standard PC" that should do the trick.

[EDIT: Maybe i overread it, but: u tried the F5 (F6?)-thingie at the beginning of the install-process to put extra drivers (like raid-dirvers) in? :) ]

Well - I know this idea is fucked up, but if nothing else works: try to install an older windows version (i.e. 98/Me/2k) and then update it. Maybe that'll make ur PC work. ;)

If this won't work, try to install a linux or any else OS (just for testing) - if it works - well, we havent solved the problem, but we decrease the number of the possible failures *grin*

PS: maybe booting a knoppix-CD will help u
