reboot Hitron 30360 with (curl) script?

My Hitron modem hangs frequently after network problems with KD. If the network is out for a short interval the modem reconnects to the internet but most of the times it does not.

My question: is there someone who knows how to reboot the modem from the lan network with a script? for example with curl.

If so I can let one of my computers attached to the KD lan network perform a reboot of the Hitron modem.

Otherwise I can reboot the modem with a raspberry with a relais and cut the power to the Hitron.

But I prefer the software method (no hardware needed).

Thanks very much!!

I decided to do it by means of a raspberry pi and let that cut the power to the hitron after some time.

It is altogether not a complement to Kabel Deutschland that a hard reboot is necessary after a network outing.

Also the number of times the internet connection is down can not be counted on two hands (in 2 years time).

I have no idea what is wrong with KD. They are silent as the grave. If they want some sympathy from me they should at least tell me (and their customers) something about their problems.

There are some others out there describing the same issue (or similar problems). In most cases this *seems* to be a last-mile problem..

If not done yet - try to replace the modem.. that might help. And/Or if you were able to scaling down your MegaBits - that would be worth a try.

I don't know what you mean exactly with the last mile.

In my house there were more people complaining about the availability of the internet connection. Therefore, As far as I know this is not a problem with my modem.

At the time of the last outing the KD Stoerungskarte showed problems in Leipzig (where I live). But it is unclear (from this map) how many persons are effected at a given time at some place. (I mean in Leipzig there must be problems (real or imaginary) at any moment because it is a big city).

I think some problems must be easy to quantify (a specific single point of failure has obvious specific effects in one specific area). Other problems will be difficult to quantify.

KD does a bad job in telling their customers about their problems. Maybe they believe that if you don't talk about your problems, they don't exist (or go away by themselves).

I am waiting for the next stoerung and how my software and hardware will respond. I have good hopes that things will recover correctly (and not like the last time when the connection was down for a month!)

I know what is generally meant with the last mile. For me the important thing is ofcourse , can I do anything about it? Part of the last mile is ofcourse my modem and the connectionbox in the cellar. In my case it seems improbable that the problem was there. Everything else is outside my scope and should (simply) work. I am sure KD 's internet network is redundant and the last mile is probably not.

I always hate it when I don't know what the problem was/is. When they say there was a router/switch down at one place and that effects this/that area, I would accept things more easely. I know that not everybody is interested in that kind of information but I am (and I can interpret such information because I am highly technically inclined, you might say I am a geek!!)

Thanks for your replies....

No!

Well - you might have simpliy a lack of quality in data transfer which is under the threshold of fault tolerance technology :D

But, really, when all the other tenant also complaining about Inet connection ask your house owner to fix that...

Otherwise.. there are some ways to abatement the rent ;)

Internet is, in our house, not a part of the warme miete. I pay for my own abo. I was doubtfull the last time of the stoerung whether I would ask my money back from KD. (that was the third time that my modem did not recover). Because they also make it not easy to discuss these things (it takes forever to find a valid e-mail adress) I opted for my current solution (simply reboot the modem after several hours and do so thereafter if the problem remains). All in all, I am not very satisfied with KD. But I have some sympathy for their problems.

They must be carefull that their complaints department will not become the only profitable department (See The hitchhikers quide to the universe)!!

If the problem is the cable endpoint in the _house_ this might be a way to force the house owner to fix the problem or at least look at that.

I mentonied this because to wrote that others in the house complaining about the same problem.
